College Planning - It Can Wait, or Can It?
Summer break is a great time to recharge your batteries after what probably seemed like a long high school year. But it shouldn't be a time to switch off and forget about planning for college. It's never too early to start the college planning process. Take this opportunity to allocate time to work on your resume, research schools, take virtual or on-campus college tours, brainstorm those essay ideas, and set up your plan. Getting these tasks going will help you feel more in control as you head back to school in the fall. You know that your time will be heavily allocated to schoolwork, studying, clubs, testing, working, volunteering, playing sports, and all the other activities that fill up your year.
Students often tell me that they wish they had started the planning process sooner. Especially seniors who enter their final high school year in a panic, thinking about all the tasks that need to be done to prepare for their college applications.
So in between those beach days and getting together with friends, spend some time on college planning activities, working, participating in community service and extracurricular activities, and start your school year off confident that you are in control. You'll be glad that you did!
